• 📅 3 October 2026 – 31 January 2027
• 🖼️ More than 50 works, including key Impressionist masterpieces
This autumn, art lovers in London will have a rare and unforgettable opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of one of Impressionism’s greatest masters. Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s work will take centre stage in a major exhibition at the National Gallery titled Renoir and Love, running from 3 October 2026 to 31 January 2027.
Curated in partnership with Paris’s Musée d’Orsay and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, this exhibition will bring together more than 50 exceptional works from across the globe, tracing Renoir’s most influential and magical years from the mid-1860s to the mid-1880s.
What makes this show particularly special is the presence of one of Renoir’s most celebrated masterpieces — Bal au Moulin de la Galette (1876) — on display in the UK for the first time ever. This iconic painting captures the joy, light, and sociability of life in 19th-century Paris and is widely considered one of the pinnacles of Impressionist art.
Love, Light & Human Connection
Rather than presenting Renoir’s art chronologically, Renoir and Love explores the rich emotional terrain that defines his work:
-
Love and flirtation
-
Friendship and play
-
Family life and leisure
-
The sociability of cafés, theatres, and dance halls
Renoir’s paintings are celebrated for their luminous brushwork and tender portrayal of human connection — a quality that made his work beloved in his own time and continues to captivate audiences today.
The exhibition promises to be one of the most talked-about cultural events in London in 2026, drawing audiences not only because of the rarity of the works on display but also because of the collaborative scale of the show — bringing together masterpieces from major international collections.
