A Memorable Visit: Ambassador Olivier Poivre d’Arvor at Galerie Saladin

Celebrating Art, Talent, and Women’s Power in Tunis

During her time as Art Director at Galerie Saladin, Fatma Koraichi curated a remarkable exhibition in the heart of Sidi Bou Said—a place long known for its artistic spirit and cultural heritage.

The exhibition, held at Galerie Saladin, brought together a collection of works under the theme of “Petit Formats”, organized in collaboration with the Art Cot Association. Despite the modest size of the artworks, the exhibition powerfully demonstrated that scale does not limit impact. As beautifully expressed in French:
“Les artistes avec leurs petits formats mais leurs grands talents.”
(Artists with small formats but great talent.)

Among the distinguished visitors was Olivier Poivre d’Arvor, who was serving as the French Ambassador to Tunisia at the time. Deeply moved by the exhibition, he shared his impressions in the gallery’s livre d’or (guestbook), recognizing the strength and depth of the works presented.

His attention was particularly drawn to two compelling paintings by Mourad Salem:

  • “Women Power” (left)
  • “The Wonderland” (right)

These works explore themes of social contestation and the role of women in society, offering a striking reflection on empowerment and the evolving dynamics of gender and power. Through symbolic imagery and narrative depth, Mourad Salem captures both the challenges and the strength of women, placing them at the center of societal transformation.

This exhibition stands as a testament to the vibrant contemporary art scene in Tunisia—where intimate formats can carry powerful messages, and where artists continue to challenge, inspire, and redefine perspectives.
